I am a self taught professional freelance artist living and working from my studio in Yorkshire, UK. I have been creating pet portraits for over 20 years, initially in graphite. After sampling coloured pencil in 2002 I fell in the love with the medium very quickly and it has been my medium of choice ever since. I specialise in a highly detailed and realistic style of drawing.
My work is split between both pet portraits and wildlife art. My pet portraits are created on a commission basis for clients all over the world, I have a large client base from all over the globe including Canada, United States, Japan and Fuji. My British Wildlife collection is inspired by the beautiful Yorkshire countryside which I am surrounded by every day. My wildlife originals, Limited-Edition Prints and Greeting Cards can be purchased from my online shop as well as during exhibitions. I feel very lucky to be living my dream job as a full time artist for a living.
I have exhibited nationally and won recognised awards for my work (2006). In 2018 I was the featured artist of the February edition of 'Colored Pencil Magazine'.
What I Offer
I am extremely passionate about my work, I have been drawing ever since I remember. I pride myself on my customer service and attention to detail. Each portrait I produce is a one-of-a-kind portrait that my clients can treasure for many years to come. My portraits are all traditionally hand-drawn using the very best materials.
I like to work very closely with my clients and I am not happy until you are 100% satisfied with your unique portrait. I use photographs to draw from, and I ask my clients to provide a selection to generate a true likeness with the finished portrait.
I accept commissions for all over the world so feel free to view some examples of my work and get in touch if you would like to commission your very own pet portrait.
As a professional artist it is important to use the highest quality art materials available so that my portraits can last through generations. For my coloured pencil portraits I use a mixed selection of pencils for the best colour palette and use of light-fast materials; I mainly use Faber Castell Polychromos, Caran D'Ache Luminance 6901 and Caran D'Ache Pablos. I also use some pencils from the Derwent Colorsoft and Derwent Drawing ranges. The pencils I use are archival, with the highest degrees of lightfastness. I often experiment with different papers - however my favoured paper is currently Italian Fabriano Artistico 640gsm hot pressed 100% cotton which is acid-free and archival museum rated.
